  本期話題:海南離島免税業將在疫情結束後繼續堅挺

  關於海南離島免税行業,我被問到最多的問題是:當中國遊客能夠再次自由出境,海南的免税業還能繼續堅挺嗎?新冠疫情期間湧入海南的旅遊零售購買力,當中會有多少將在疫情結束後轉移回韓國、泰國、越南、新加坡等熱門旅遊目的地呢?

  不少人似乎認為,一旦旅遊恢復常態(雖然“常態”到底意味着什麼、何時會發生,沒人能給出明確的答案),海南免税業近年來蓬勃持續的發展將告終結。依我看,這種觀點絕對是錯誤的。

  的確,一旦放寬旅遊限制,大量中國遊客將會出境旅行。與世界上其他任何民族一樣,中國人也喜歡探索世界,體驗不同的文化、美食和名勝古蹟——但目前,中國 14 億人口中只有約 14% 持有護照。這個數字在疫情前在不斷增長,而且很有可能會在疫情過後激增;但我們也需意識到,對於大部分中國人來説,國內旅行依然是他們的首選或唯一的選擇。

  中旅免税(中免集團母公司)對海南的未來顯然充滿信心。預計將於 2022年6月正式營業的海口國際免税城的最新效果圖近期亮相,其規模之大、設計之精美,充分展現這一宏偉項目背後的巨大投資和雄雄野心。

  中免集團已經在三亞的免税市場占主導地位,這次計劃在省會海口建設國際免税城,無疑能幫助集團鞏固、擴展其領先地位,並在海南形成“南北呼應”。建成後,海口國際免税城將擁有全球最大的免税商店,及一系列世界級的休閒娛樂設施及食肆;與集團旗下的海口日月廣場免税店相比,其規模與水準要高出不止一個檔次。

  中國政府近年來推出各種舉措,倡導最大限度地提高國內消費,並吸引境外消費迴流,而海南離島免税購物正是這個大趨勢的一個重要基石。免税購物限額的大幅提升就是很好的例子,而且這個額度很可能會在未來繼續升級。同時,海南省內免税零售商和免税商城的數量也在不斷增加,這將確保遊客們在享受海南自然風光和人文景觀的同時,打開錢包、盡情消費。

  海南離島免税業的驚人成功絕不會只是曇花一現。在未來很長時間裏,它將對整個行業產生持續、積極,甚至是主導性的影響。海南在過去十年創造了旅遊零售的奇蹟,而這個奇蹟還將繼續。

  Make no mistake — Hainan’s duty free success will continue long after the pandemic

  The question I am asked most about Hainan’s offshore duty free industry is what will happen once the Chinese are able to travel freely abroad once more?

  How much of the shopping spending that has poured into the island province since the COVID-19 pandemic began will be diverted back to popular Chinese travel destinations such as South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and others?

  Those who believe that a return to travel ‘normality’ – whatever that means and whenever it happens – will spell the end of Hainan duty free’s relentless rise of recent years are certainly mistaken.

  It is true that the Chinese will travel abroad in great numbers in the future once restrictions are eased. Like any nationality, the Chinese people want to discover the world, experience other cultures, cuisines and places of interest. Currently though, only around 14% of China’s 1.4 billion population have passports. While that number will likely surge post-COVID as it did before the pandemic, there will still be a very significant majority of Chinese people for whom domestic travel is the preferred or only option.

  Certainly, China Tourism Group Duty Free (parent company of China Duty Free Group) is confident of Hainan’s future. The latest renderings of the extraordinary Haikou International Duty Free City, due to open in June 2022 dramatically (and beautifully) capture the enormous investment and ambition that underpin this grand project.

  Just as China Duty Free dominates the sector in Sanya to the south, so it plans to build a mega-presence in the capital Haikou. Compared with the company’s current presence in Haikou’s Mova Mall, this is in another league. As mentioned previously, the development will feature the world’s biggest duty free shop and a host of other leisure and entertainment facilities.

  Hainan offshore duty free shopping is a cornerstone of a ‘mega-trend’, to maximise consumptionat home and to repatriate Chinese shopping spend from abroad. The very generous duty free shopping allowances are evidence of that and they may well be increased in the future. The recent proliferation of duty free retailers on the island will also ensure that visitors spend more of their allowance while also enjoying Hainan’s natural and man-made wonders.

  Hainan is no temporary 21st century travel retail El Dorado but a permanent, positive and perhaps even dominant part of the industry landscape for years to come. Its astonishing ten-year success story is set to run and run.
